HONOURED ARTIST OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION, COMPOSER, PROFESSOR 


LANTUAT NGUEN was born in 1935 into the family of the famous Professor-Linguist, Dr. Nguyen Lan, the last Mayor of Hue, the Emperor’s capital of Vietnam.

In 1959 LanTuat went to the USSR to study music theory at the Lvov Conservatory of Music, and then went on to study music composition at the Leningrad Conservatory of Music where he graduated in 1970

In 1980 he received his Master degree and in 2009 successfully defended his State Doctor thesis at the Leningrad Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography,

LanTuat has taught at the Institute of Arts in Ufa for over 13 years before joining the Novosibirsk Conservatory of Music where he assumed the post of Deputy Chairman of the Department of Composition. His students consisting of composers, critics and conductors working in many philharmonic societies, symphony and opera orchestras in Russia and abroad.

 


As a member of the Composer’s Union in Russia and Vietnam, he is the author of many vocal and  instrumental works but the main stream of his creativity are symphonies. His four symphonies, namely “The foreboding of the Civil War”, “My Motherland”, “The Condemned’s Dreams”, and “To a Faraway Beloved” have been performed in Russia, Europe and Asia and received highest acclaims from critics as the natural combination of national manner with highest professionalism, classical tradition with modern language.

LanTuat is the author of many theatre and music critic publications, including the “Traditional Theatre of Vietnam” which was published in both English and Russian.  In 2003-2004, he was also the producer of a TV program on the “Culture-NTK” channel about music and musicians of Novosibirsk which had a very high rating.

On the social activity, LanTuat is a member of the Presidium of the “Novosibirsk professor’s Assembly”, Vice President of the Vietnamese Community in the Russian Federation, and a member of the “Rotary Club”. He has also been awarded several Honored Diplomas from the Governor and Mayor of Novosibirsk.

In 2001 LanTuat was conferred with the prestigious title of the “Honoured Artist of the Russia Federation”, and in 2008, he was awarded the “Order of Friendship” by the President of Russia.
